Moderna Inc.’s influenza vaccine made with mRNA technology was recommended for approval by outside advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration, a positive development for what has been a contentious product at the agency.

The vote is a major victory for Moderna, and represents a continuing turnabout at the FDA, which appears to be rapidly backing off controversial drug and vaccine decisions it made under previous leadership.
