A federal judge won’t stop a retaliatory effort from California to Texas’ controversial redistricting, at least not until Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) gets a chance to respond.
On Friday, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk denied an emergency request request from US Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) to halt an election Newsom called for November to redraw California’s district lines.
Jackson offered no explanation to the court for why he needed relief so quickly, before Newsom or California Secretary of State Shirley Weber have even been served with his lawsuit, Kacsmaryk of the Northern District of Texas said in the Friday order.
