A judge is poised to toss a bankruptcy case filed by the Diocese of Oakland, Calif., after the Catholic church, its insurers, and a committee representing child sex abuse claimants were unable to reach a resolution in the lengthy proceedings.
The diocese’s case will be dismissed Nov. 12 if the parties haven’t shown significant progress toward a resolution, Judge William J. Lafferty said during a hearing Wednesday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California.
