An Oklahoma man lost on Tuesday his appeal to undo a 48-month prison sentence for odometer fraud, conspiracy to commit odometer tampering, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Sebron Dejuan Brown challenged the district court’s calculation of his guidelines range, as well as its decision to vary upward by 11 months. But the district court’s approach was reasonable, the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit said.
Brown’s scheme involved rolling back odometers in high-mileage vehicles, staging collisions, and submitting fraudulent insurance claims for bodily injury and vehicle repair costs based on misrepresented vehicle values.
