Spain, already China’s most outspoken advocate in the European Union in recent years, is fast becoming a core shipping hub for the Asian nation, too.
Cosco Shipping has been awarded a terminal in a third port in Spain, with a 50-year concession in Tarragona, on the eastern coast. It will join its terminals in Valencia on the Mediterranean and Bilbao on the Atlantic.
Tarragona’s surrounding namesake province is also home to a fuel refinery and Southern Europe’s largest petrochemical hub, meaning the port has been traditionally more focused on liquids than bulk. The new concession will slightly change that balance, ...
