Orange juice and coffee futures climbed in New York as the US’s threat to apply a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods risks disrupting shipments from the world’s top producer of the commodities.
US President Donald Trump announced the 50% levy on Wednesday. That’s one of thehighest rates unveiled so far among dozens of countries facing tariffs, which are set to start in August. If the 50% figure holds, flows could be impacted into the US. American companies source more than a quarter of their coffee from Brazil, while imports of orange juice increased following a decline in Florida’s output. ...
