EU Urges Wine, Spirits Tariff Cut as 15% US Duty Irks Industry

European officials said they’ll keep pressing for lower tariffs on wine and spirits, after a tradeagreement with the US prompted an outcry from the industry by leaving exports to America subject to 15% levies.

At issue is the treatment of Champagne, liquor and other alcohol products shipped to the US, a top market for the bloc’s wine and spirits. For weeks, European leaders have unsuccessfully lobbied US officials to exempt the products from President Donald Trump’s so-called reciprocal tariffs.
