Namibia’s state-owned power utility, NamPower, made a loss of 2 billion Namibian dollars ($110 million) in 2021-22 due to costly energy imports.
The country brought in electricity, mainly from South Africa to maintain supply because production from its Ruacana Power Station almost halved to 781 gigawatt hours during the period, the company said in a statement. The dam suffered from low rainfall and the impact of Angola’s large water infrastructure development in the catchment area, it said.
