Abortion Pill ‘Reversal’ Poses Commercial Speech Issue on Appeal

A pair of cases from anti-abortion groups challenging Attorney General Rob Bonta’s (D) enforcement actions over their promotion of an abortion pill “reversal” procedure had a panel of Ninth Circuit judges at oral arguments Thursday weighing the scope of commercial speech precedents.

At issue is Bonta’s lawsuit against one anti-abortion clinic and his legal warnings against other clinics and nonprofits that their advertisements of a medical procedure known as progesterone therapy to reverse the effects of the abortion pill mifepristone are misleading and violate state consumer protection laws.
