Measures that would place the nation’s first-of-its-kind rules around protecting children from artificial intelligence, particularly companion chatbots, have cleared the California Legislature.
The state Senate on Thursday approved changes to legislation (SB 243) sponsored by state Sen. Steve Padilla (D) that would place guardrails on how chatbots behave around children. The state Assembly meanwhile on Thursday approved changes to a bill by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D) that would prohibit companion chatbots (AB 1064)
