Google Asks to Strike Class Allegations from AI Copyright Suit

Google LLC asked a federal court to effectively end a class action from writers and artists who accused the tech giant of infringing copyrights through its AI training, arguing they violated a court order by broadening the boundaries of the proposed class members.

The plaintiffs engaged in “class-litigation-by-ambush” by adding two new class definitions and three new subclass definitions in their motion for class certification that differ “wildly” from their complaint, Google said in a motion for sanctions filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
