GoPro Nixes Contour $8.2 Million Verdict in Camera Patent Suit

GoPro Inc. convinced a California federal judge that Contour IP Holding LLC’s video technology patent was invalid, axing an $8.2 million verdict that both parties said was inconsistent.

A reasonable jury “could only conclude” that claim 11 of US Patent No. 8,890,954 is invalid for obviousness, Judge William Orrick of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Thursday. GoPro gave evidence for its invalidity defense during the trial, Orrick noted.
