Micron Keeps Patent Validity Win Over Katana at Federal Circuit

Micron Technology Inc. convinced the Federal Circuit Tuesday that an administrative tribunal correctly invalidated a pair of semiconductor patents the chipmaker challenged as obvious after a non-practicing entity sued it for infringement.

Micron brought challenges at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board after Katana Silicon Technologies LLC alleged that the company infringed US Patent Nos. RE38,806, 6,352,879, as well as a third patent.

The patents cover a vertically stacked group of miniaturized chips and a way to make them so they stick together.
