Microsoft Settles Patent Owner’s Voice-Recognition Tech Suit

Microsoft Corp. and Dialect LLC told a Texas federal judge they’re settling a patent infringement lawsuit concerning voice recognition technology inside multiple products, including Azure OpenAI Services and Copilot virtual assistant.

The companies requested a 29-day stay to finalize their agreement and submit dismissal papers, according to a joint motion filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Dialect sued Microsoft in December 2024, alleging that Azure OpenAI Services, Copilot virtual assistant, Cortana virtual assistant, and Azure AI services infringed several patents covering methods and systems for advanced conversational AI features.
