Nokia Hits Warner Bros. with Suit Over Streaming Tech Patents

A Nokia Corp. unit accused Warner Bros. Discovery of infringing its patents by incorporating protected video coding and encoding systems into the HBO Max and Discovery+ subscription services.

Warner Bros., Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Home Box Office Inc.’s ad-supported and subscription offerings use similar methods as thirteen patents, according to a complaint filed Nov. 1 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. Nokia Technologies Oy said Warner Bros. didn’t agree to a license to use the protected technology after Nokia sent it a notice in February 2023.
