Piper Networks Can’t Shake Off Train Safety Systems Patent Suit

Piper Networks Inc. must deal with allegations that its train safety systems used for a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority project infringed Metrom Rail LLC’s patent.

Metrom’s complaint alleged that meeting MBTA’s requirements would require Piper to infringe US Patent No. 9,731,738, Judge Denise Cote said Wednesday for the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. She rejected Piper’s argument that Metrom’s suit should be dismissed because its allegations were based what it believed discovery would show, and not actual infringement of the patent.
