Court Extends Hold on Albuquerque’s Political Committees Rules

A federal judge extended the life of a block on Albuquerque, N.M.'s, regulations for political committees, changing a temporary restraining order to a preliminary injunction.

The plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits of their claim that some of the rules governing what the city calls “measure finance committees"—political committees, persons or groups that support or oppose a candidate or ballot measure—burden the plaintiffs’ constitutional speech rights, as applied to them, Judge James O. Browning of the US District Court for the District of New Mexico said Thursday, expanding his November holding.
