The Pentagon pledged to no longer consider applicants’ race in admissions decisions at West Point and the US Air Force Academy.
The Defense Department made the commitment in a settlement with Students for Fair Admissions, a nonprofit that challenged the use of race in admissions at the two military academies.
Under the terms of the settlement, both academies agreed not to maintain race-based goals or quotas, to shield race and ethnicity information from admissions decision makers, and to train admissions personnel to “adhere to strict merit-only standards,” SFFA wrote in a press release Monday.
