AI Anti-Discrimination Legislation Passes Virginia Statehouse

Virginia would become the second state to approve comprehensive anti-discrimination restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence under legislation cleared Wednesday by the Democratic-controlled General Assembly.

State senators approved the measure (H.R. 2094) by a 21-19 vote a week after the House of Delegates passed the bill by a 51-47 vote.

Businesses would have to proactively address potential bias in automated decision-making in employment, finance, healthcare, and other sectors if Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin signs the legislation into law. His office did not respond to a request for comment on his position on the measure.
