It’s Lonely at the Top of the SEC During Shutdown, Records Show

William Hinman is one of the luckiest, or unluckiest, SEC employees, depending on how you look at it.

Hinman, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporation Finance, was the only person in his group on duty full time during the month-long federal government shutdown last winter, according to a Bloomberg Law review of agency records. The division has more than 400 members, about a dozen of whom cycled in and out of the office to join Hinman.
