- Firm’s IP team in DC led by patents lawyer Song Jung
- Former US Dentons chair Jeff Haidet moved over last month
A 15-lawyer team of IP and corporate lawyers from Dentons has joined the firm’s former US chair Jeff Haidet in a move to Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, the firm announced.
The team includes a six-partner IP group, based in Washington and led by BCLP’s new global chair of patents Song Jung, a former electrical engineer with NASA before becoming an attorney. Jung chaired the global intellectual property and technology group at Dentons while serving on the firm’s board.
Jung practice includes patent-related litigation and prosecutions as well as licensing matters and IP acquisitions. Jung represented LG Chem in a recent $1.8 billion lithium-ion battery trade secrets case in a settlement he helped win on LG’s behalf.
The move follows the news late last month that Atlanta-based Haidet had jumped to BCLP. Haidet, who now practices out of BCLP’s corporate and finance transactions department, left Dentons May 19.
Haidet said he’s worked closely with Jung on various matters for many years, so it made sense to make the move as a broader team.
He added that BCLP also made sense because it has exhibited strength in sectors important to his practice, such as aviation and consumer products.
“We saw an opportunity for our clients,” Haidet said.
The group’s addition “amplifies BCLP’s growth strategy and our commitment to leading high-stakes litigation and strategic transactions around the globe,” said co-chairs Lisa Mayhew and Steve Baumer in a written statement. The IP and tech experience the attorneys bring is a “game-changer,” they said.
The five additional IP partners making the move are Bumrae Cho, Yong Choi, Tyler Goodwyn, Mark Kresloff, and Bruce Vance.
In 2021, Dentons lost a five-attorney IP team to Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, led by D.C.-based partner Martin Bruehs.
Dentons last November announced that former global chairman Joe Andrew would be stepping down from the firm after a decade-long stint in the post.
