A federal appeals court Saturday gave the state of Tennessee the go-ahead to enforce temporarily a state law that bans gender-affirming care for minors.
The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit granted Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti’s motion for an emergency stay of a lower court’s injunction that had blocked the enforcement of S.B. 1. The law, which prohibits health-care providers from performing gender-affirming surgeries and administering hormones or puberty blockers to transgender minors, was scheduled to go into effect July 1.
