Trump’s Government Payroll Purge Expands to Probationary Workers

Thousands of probationary employees in multiple government agencies are facing dismissal as the Trump administration continued its effort to rapidly thin the ranks of federal workers.

The Office of Personnel Management, which manages human resources across the US bureaucracy, met with federal agencies on Thursday and advised them to lay off their probationary workers, with some exceptions, according to a person familiar with the matter. The office had earlier told US agencies to focus on cutting poor performers.
