Three Alaska Native villages and the Center for Biological Diversity asked a court Wednesday to vacate a land transfer to build a disputed road within a national wildlife refuge.
The lawsuit, filed in US District Court for the District of Alaska, challenges Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s Oct. 23 decision to approve a land exchange within a federal wilderness area in the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge.
The land exchange clears the way for a road that would connect the remote communities of King Cove and Cold Bay, Alaska.
