California Communities Sue Officials Over Grant Conditions (1)

A coalition of California cities and counties is asking a federal court to rollback conditions imposed on federal grants after President Donald Trump took office in January 2025.

The conditions, which apply to grants supporting everything from fire fighting to victims’ assistance services, aren’t connected to the programs’ purposes, weren’t authorized by statute, and conflict with the law, the communities said in a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California Feb. 20.
