Comcast’s $117.5 Million Data Breach Settlement Gets Court Nod

Comcast Cable Communications’ agreement to pay $117.5 million to settle a class action filed after the telecommunications giant suffered a data breach was preliminarily approved by a federal court.

Residents of the US who were individually notified of the data breach will be able to enroll for three years of credit monitoring and identity theft insurance. They will also have the option between reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses and lost time up to $10,000 per person, or a cash payment initially estimated to equal $50, according to the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
