The Florida Supreme Court rejected a demand to quickly rule on the legality of a new congressional map Wednesday, cementing Republicans’ marked advantage in the state.

A split bench refused to consider an expedited state constitutional challenge to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) map. The lines, passed by Republican lawmakers in an April special session, give the GOP a leg up in 24 of the state’s 28 US House districts.

A trio of lawsuits contend the lines were drawn in violation of voter-referendum amendments made to the state constitution in 2010 that seek to bar partisan gerrymandering. The justices didn’t reach ...
