EEOC, Agency Partners Commit to Focus on Fighting AI-Based Bias

US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Chair Charlotte Burrows said the workplace civil rights agency is collaborating with other government agencies to bolster a regulatory focus on artificial intelligence tools used to make employment decisions.

Burrows, alongside the heads of agencies including the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, told reporters Tuesday that they would direct their respective enforcement authorities toward mitigating bias caused by AI tools.

The statement comes shortly after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced discussions of a “a new regulatory regime” to target AI.
