Federal Judge Extends Ban on Arkansas Ten Commandments Display

Another Arkansas school district remains blocked from implementing a state law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms while a constitutional challenge plays out.

Judge Timothy L. Brooks of the US District Court for the Western District of Arkansas entered a preliminary injunction Monday against Lakeside School District No. 9, extending an earlier temporary restraining order. Five other school districts are also barred from implementing the law after Brooks concluded the measure likely violates the First Amendment rights of the parents and minors who brought the suit.
