The Trump administration must provide New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority the nearly $34 million grant it awarded, but then pulled, due to New York City’s status as a sanctuary jurisdiction.
The withholding of the funds “is arbitrary, capricious, and a blatant violation of the law,” Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said in a Thursday order granting a permanent injunction requiring the federal government to grant the funds to the MTA.
