A Chicago federal judge expressed dismay about the US attorney’s office before granting the government’s bid to abandon fraud charges against two defendants accused of a $300 million Covid testing scam after concerns about the grand jury proceedings jettisoned the case.
Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman granted an emergency motion to dismiss the charges against Mahmood Sami Khan and Suhaib Ahmad Chaudhry following the Friday hearing.
“I’m not the only one—we have cases throughout this building that are all in turmoil—and judges are trying to figure out what we’re doing here,” Coleman said.
