New York Lawmaker Asks SCOTUS to Stay Redistricting Decision (1)

US Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) urged the US Supreme Court to stay a state court decision requiring the redrawing of her congressional district for diluting Black and Latino voters.

The high court should stay the order so the 2026 congressional election can begin under a legislatively adopted congressional map, Malliotakis’ emergency application for stay said. Elections are set to begin Feb. 24.

The state court decision violates the equal protection clause of the US Constitution by preventing New York from holding congressional elections until it racially gerrymanders the district, Malliotakis said.
