Three members of the Federal Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico say the Trump administration’s attempt to fire them violates a federal statute and the US Constitution.
The administration could only fire members for cause, and therefore emails from the Presidential Personnel Office announcing their removal without justification are unlawful, they told the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico in a Thursday complaint. The court should enjoin the administration from following through with the terminations, the members say.
The US Department of Justice didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
