The widow of a deceased Cincinnati Reds player who pitched a perfect game in 1988 failed to convince a federal judge that she was wrongly denied benefits from the MLB players’ pension office.
The plan provides that retired players must have been married for at least one year for their spouses to be eligible for benefits after their death, Judge Steven D. Merryday said Tuesday. The pension office reasonably interpreted this requirement when it denied benefits to Dawn Dellapa, who married pitcher Tom Browning seven weeks before his 2022 death, Merryday said.
