States Sue DOE Over Cut Grants for High-Poverty School Students

A coalition of two states and Washington, DC is suing the US Department of Education for canceling millions of dollars worth of federal grants designed to assist children attending high-poverty schools.

Maryland, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia claim the federal government’s cuts to grants that support DOE Full-Service Community School programs will put children at these schools at further risk of having their home utilities shut off, being evicted, or going hungry.

The suit, which also names DOE Secretary Linda McMahon, was filed Tuesday at the US District Court for the District of Maryland.
