Five White Philadelphia police officers launched a proposed class action against the city Wednesday over allegations they were passed over for promotions because of the city’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.
The city’s “Rule of Five” promotion policy that aims to increase the minority and female representation in supervisory positions violates Title VII, federal law prohibiting racial discrimination, the Pennsylvania Constitution, the US Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause, and Pennsylvania law, the police officers said in their complaint.
