Columbia University named Jennifer Mnookin, chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Madison, as its next president, completing a search that will deliver the Ivy League school its fourth leader since late 2023.
Mnookin, 58, who has also served as dean of the UCLA School of Law, will take the helm from acting president Claire Shipman on July 1 after a search process beset by delays and complications. Prominent academics dropped out of consideration and pressure persisted from the Trump administration to clamp down on visas for foreign students at Columbia.
