Democratic Challenger to NY Governor Hochul Suspends Campaign

Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado suspended his campaign for governor of New York after deciding that he couldn’t defeat the incumbent, his fellow Democrat Kathy Hochul.

“I’ve concluded that there simply is no viable path forward,” Delgado, who Hochul handpicked as her Lieutenant Governor more than three years ago, said in a statement Tuesday.

Hochul will now run largely unopposed in the Democratic primary in June. Last week, she received the backing of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, helping her shore up support from progressives.
