New York Governor Kathy Hochul is doubling the state’s investment for expanding child-care facilities to $100 million in 2026.
The funding announcement comes after New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani won his campaign on a platform of making the city more affordable, including providing free childcare for preschool-age children. Last year, a similar initiative targeted using $50 million to build more child-care centers to help ease the cost for working families.
