NY Budget Deal Comes Together, Falls Apart
The emerging budget deal out of Albany deals a blow to plaintiffs’ lawyers and a boost to Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The governor said she reached a “general agreement” with legislative leaders on a $268 billion policy-packed spending plan that includes overhauling car crash litigation laws. Hochul’s plan would cap payouts for drivers found most at fault in an accident or who were engaging in criminal behavior at the time of the crash.
The governor has touted the changes as a way to bring down auto insurance rates.
