New York has followed California to become the 23rd state to adopt licensing reforms meant to expand access to accounting careers with a shorter timeline to qualify for the CPA credential.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) Friday signed into law state legislation (A7613) that allows accountants to qualify for the certified public accountant license after completing a standard four-year degree plus two years of professional experience. Candidates will continue to have the option of following the existing pathway that requires an additional year of college beyond a standard bachelor’s degree and one year of work experience.
