Algerian President Orders Government to Raise Minimum Wage

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune instructed the government to prepare decrees to raise both minimum wage and unemployment benefits, the cabinet says in statement.

  • NOTE: Monthly minimum wage in Algeria for both public and private sectors is currently 20,000 dinars
  • NOTE: Algeria in early 2022 became one of the first countries in Africa to enact a permanent unemployment-benefits program; monthly allowance is 13,000 dinars
  • Tebboune also ordered an investigation into “the causes of fires that broke out simultaneously in several provinces last weekend”
