Brazil lower house Speaker Hugo Motta left for Oct. 1 the vote on an income tax exemption for workers who who earn up to 5,000 reais ($940). The legislation also has discounts for people with incomes of up to 7,350 reais, bill rapporteur Arthur Lira wrote in a post on X. He said the bill aims to ensure greater tax justice.
In the Senate, the economic committee votes today on its own income tax proposal under rapporteur Renan Calheiros. The lower house’s legislation, by contrast, was put forth by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s government.
