President Donald Trump has a seemingly insatiable appetite for tariffs. In the past week alone he has imposed new import taxes on branded medicines, kitchen cabinets and trucks. All while ordering up an investigation into imported robots and industrial machinery that seems likely to beget more.

There’s no doubt that Trump is erecting a historic and consequential tariff wall around the world’s largest economy.
