Corporate cybersecurity officials are increasingly getting executive perks to compensate them for liability risks, according to a report Thursday.
Compensation for chief information security officers grew by 6.7% in 2025—continuing to slow from last year’s 8.4% growth, according to the 2025 CISO Compensation Benchmark Report. And some 70% of CISOs are now covered by directors and officers insurance to protect them in the event of lawsuits. That represents a jump from 40% last year, the report said. One in five CISOs get access to external counsel and one in ten receive media training, it said.
