The NAACP’s Tennessee chapter and state Democrats filed a pair of lawsuits challenging a hastily passed new congressional map that wipes out the state’s sole left-leaning, majority-Black district.
Both suits were filed Thursday, hours after Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed the plan approved by the Republican-controlled General Assembly that same day. The NAACP sued in state court while state Democrats and House candidates filed in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
