The Trump administration is seeking a stay while it appeals a preliminary injunction from a federal judge in Washington blocking it from dismantling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The National Treasury Employees Union, which represents many CFPB workers and is challenging the shutdown moves, argued in a Wednesday filing that the administration’s request for a hold is based on a false premise—that it no longer intends to eliminate the agency.
The union asked for a shorter administrative stay, during which the agency would be barred from carrying out certain personnel termination, data deletion, and contract cancellation measures.
