Kari Lake, senior advisor to the United States Agency for Global Media, failed to disburse funds to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in violation of Congress’s statutory appropriations, the broadcasting group said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The executive agency’s decision to impound $7.5 million in appropriated funds was an abuse of discretion that violated the Administrative Procedure Act and ran afoul of the separation of powers, RFE/RL Inc. told the US District Court for the District of Columbia. Radio Free Europe seeks the impounded funds and $70 million in appropriations covering until the start of October.
