NCAA Pay, Partial-Scholarship Plaintiffs Oppose Big Settlement

Plaintiffs in two cases who say the NCAA unfairly caps athlete compensation and scholarships asked a federal judge Friday to carve certain claims out of a broad $2.8 billion proposed settlement.

That settlement would inadequately represent and compensate athletes like Alex Fontenot, a college football player at the University of Colorado from 2017 to 2022 pursuing fair pay claims, as well as former college baseball player Riley Cornelio, who alleges the NCAA capped scholarship amounts at artificially low levels, according to a motion filed late Friday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
