Texas $3 Billion Dementia Research Fund Survives Voter Challenge

An election challenge to a voter-approved $3 billion dementia research fund in Texas fell short Wednesday, with a judge ruling voters lack standing to bring claims that the state used non-certified electronic voting machines in the November 2025 election.

Judge Jan Soifer of the 345th district court dismissed the case after the state argued the plaintiffs — two voters representing themselves as pro se litigants — lacked a specific injury that wasn’t also felt by other voters in the state.

Soifer, a Travis County Democrat, didn’t give a reason for the way she ruled.
